THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CEO AIA

Robert Ivy is the Executive Vice President and CEO American Institute of Architects (AIA). AIA is a web of over 250 sections with over 90,000 members who are registered architects and design professionals. This organisation is dedicated to constructing and improving the built environment. Robert Ivy has braced the foundation through activism, education initiatives and public outreach. These methods have helped members of the organisation offer best services in the world of error of change and challenges.

Under his leadership, the American Institute of Architects has been transformed to be able to accommodate the 21st century developmental needs. He has altered it from its rich heritage to a more open, hands-on, and influential organization. His chief goal is to educate the general public about the importance and the value of all architects. Robert Ivy’s main achievement in the organization is modernising AIA governance to develop decision-making process, building restructured infrastructure and also initiation the award-winning campaign to create public awareness. Recently, Robert Ivy has shifted AIA’s resources to give architects the required preparation in their roles to solve current pressing matters such as sustainability, changes in climate as well as the effect of design on public health.

Robert Ivy had worked in other organizations before he joined AIA; he worked for the McGraw-Hill Construction as a Vice president and Editorial Director. He also worked at Architectural Record Magazine as an Editor-in-chief where he led the company to win numerous publishing industry awards including The American Society of Magazine Editors, premiere magazine journalism award and the National Magazine Award for General Excellence, a rare accomplishment for a professional journal. Ivy is the author of the biography “Fay Jones: Architect” which was published in 2001. In this book, he has showcased the work of an American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Robert has won several awards of his own too. He was awarded the Crain Award in 2009; this is the highest recognition for a person by the American Business Media. In 1998, he was awarded the McGraw-Hill Award for Management Excellence. The national architecture fraternity, Alpha Rho Chi anonymously voted him the ”master architect”. He won this award due to his efficiency in communicating the importance and worth of design. He is the only individual to win this prize in the 21st century. Only seven other individuals have received this award in the past 100 years. He was among the jurors who choose the architect Frank Gehry to design and construct the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial.

Robert Ivy stated that the world of architecture has changed to accommodate the 21st century. Today’s building designs are focused on more than lighting unlike in the past. He believes that building construction and design can have a profound impact when combined with other fields.
