Joining the Downtown Madison Optimist
club is a great way to meet other people who share an interest
in community service. Further, our club offers many opportunities
to develop leadership skills.
Here are some of our club's projects:
-
Strikes for Kids Bowl-A-Thon.
Join us on Saturday, April 17, 2010 beginning at 11am at Doubledays in Cottage Grove for some bowling fun! The winning
bowling team may select from a list of pre-approved kids' charities where 50% of the proceeds will be donated.
The remaining proceeds will fund Optimist youth projects in our community. For more information, email us
at downtownoptimistclub@yahoo.com.
- Golf Outing. Every fall, we organize a golf outing to raise funds for the MACC Fund. Mark your calendars for our next outing on September 10, 2010 at UW Ridge.
- Mits for Kits. We collect hats, mittens and scarves for Lincoln Elementary School.
- We Got Your Back(Pack) School Supply Drive. We collect school supplies to help low income elementary school students achieve academic success.
- Fishing Program. Each spring, we supply youth with fishing gear
and take kids from the Boys and Girls
Club fishing.
- NOW Meeting. At least once per year, we host a party and inform
potential new members about optimists and our club.
- Fund-Raising. Member volunteer to operate the Badger football concession stands.
- All-City Soccer Banquet. We organize and sponsor a banquet recognizing soccer players
from area high schools. Interested in helping?
- Essay Contest. Each winter, we organize an essay contest for area
high school students.
- Youth Appreciation Luncheon. Each March, we organize two luncheons recognizing
students
from area high schools.
- Oratorical Contest. We organize an annual oratorical contest involving area
high school students.
- Respect for Law Day. Each May, we organize a luncheon honoring law enforcement and
community members for their outstanding work.
- Scholarships. We coordinate and award scholarships to Madison high school students.
- Mallards Game. We organize at least one outing to the Mallards game each year.
- Any Other Ideas? We are always looking for suggestions for new programs or fund
raisers!
